Classroom Resources: Embrace What Makes You Unique

Meet James & Serenity

I am the author of James and Serenity: Proud of Our Stripes — a children’s book (coming soon!) that explores identity, belonging, and the power of embracing what makes us unique.

In addition to my book, I provide resources for parents and educators on social-emotional learning (SEL), trauma-informed practices, and tools to support children’s growth.

Stay tuned for free guides, videos, and classroom activities in the Resources section.

Why Kids React the Way They Do
Kids don’t misbehave on purpose—their brain state affects how they respond! 🚦
🟢Green Zone (Calm & Ready to Learn) – This is when kids feel safe, connected, and open to learning.
🟡 Yellow Zone (Frustration & Anxiety) – Signs include fidgeting, whining, or irritability. They need co-regulation to get back to green.
🔴 Red Zone (Fight, Flight, or Freeze) – This is full meltdown mode. Logic won’t help here—focus on safety and connection first.
Understanding these zones helps us respond with empathy instead of frustration. Which zone do you see most often?
